Japanese Mosaic is a clue-linking puzzle that presents players with a grid containing a hidden pixel-art picture. Through the application of logic, solvers must determine which squares should be painted and which should remain empty until the concealed image is fully revealed. This puzzle is also recognized under the names of "Japanese Painting," "Fill-a-Pix," "Mosaic," "Mosaik," "Nurie Puzzle," and "Nampre Puzzle."
The grid of the Japanese Mosaic Puzzle resembles a mosaic with numbers distributed throughout various positions. Each number, referred to as a clue, indicates how many squares surrounding it (including the square containing the clue) need to be filled in. Consequently, the clues utilized range from 0 to 9 inclusive.
